Nintendo knitting? Why wasn't this put into production? I need one!

My household is extremely geeky. On one shelf, almost the entire Marvel Universe is posed to do some fighting. On another, a Darth Vader Helmet circa 1981 is gathering a bit of dust, and new Mass Effect Three action figures are taking pride of place next to it. There are two lightsabers, one DeLorean on the coffee table and one face-hugger from Alien hanging off the wall. The xbox games and DVDs are countless. I could go on. There's even a whole cupboard filled with Nerf guns.

So imagine the delight of Hotel Nerd (as our friends refer to our flat) when we discovered that Nintendo had planned a knitting machine plug-in for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the mid-1980s!

I was pretty excited. IGN reported this today - an old product brochure has surfaced and it's just amazing - such a shame that it never went into production! I think this would've merged two complementary hobbies very well!

More vintage knitting patterns

So my awesome fiancé teaches a drawing class at a community centre not far from where we live, and today he made an amazing discovery. A whole table of Golden Hands magazines! Golden Hands? I hadn't heard of it either, but it appears to be a serial for the housewife to knit, embroider and crochet her way through life - circa 1970. They were 10 cents each (with an honesty box collection) and he found a 20 cent coin in the footwell of the car to buy me some!
He thought the one with the knitted wedding coat was particularly suitable.

Look at that hood! I definitely won't have time to make one of these for the wedding, but maybe if I knit one in green I can dress up as an elf from Lord of the Rings...

He suspects that some old lady is having a serious spring clean - he says there's about 50 stacked on a table.

I want this teacup. I love blue teacups.

And I really really want to knit the chevron scarf - but it says I need to get the pattern from chapter 23 - which I don't have!

I think one night this week we'll be taking a visit to the community centre, to find chapter 23 specifically... I better find some spare change!

Array by Shibui - love this pattern

Pic credit Shibui Knits.

I am in love with this free scarf pattern by Shibui Knits. It's called Array and the texture is just amazing. It uses at lot of slip stitches, which is something I haven't done much of before but I'd like to try it. And I think I have some yarn that will be perfect for it. After finishing the gifts.

A bit of bunting

Less than 100 days to go until the wedding, so we thought we should go and get an idea of what kind of decorations we should use at the park for the ceremony. We're thinking bunting. Just lots more of it.

And white flowers.

It's going to be a great day!

Nana Night with The Bread and Butter Letter

One of my favourite shops, The Bread and Butter Letter, hosts a Nana Night once a month in St Kevin's Arcade. There's knitting and boardgames and tea and live bands and it's such a good time - even better when you're teaching friends to knit!

Me knitting with some peppermint tea.

Teaching Shuk to knit.

And the lemon cake? Amazing.

Improving my photography

Being winter, at the moment it's dark when I leave the house and it's dark when I get home. The only time I have some light to take photos is on the weekend, and my weekends have been pretty busy recently. I've sufficient enough with my camera if I've got good lighting, but there is heaps of room for improvement in other lighting conditions, as well as getting better at using all of my camera's manual functions. So I did what I usually do when I'm wanting to learn new crafty stuff - I've signed up for another Craftsy class.
Shoot it: A product photography primer is hosted by crafter Caro Sheridan and so far I'm really enjoying it. We've been going through all the theory at the moment, but in the next lesson we get to start taking photos - I'll post them here and see if I improve!
Maybe I should invest in a macro lens - it would be much easier to take better shots of knitting details, but I'm saving. No more dipping into the wedding fund. Period!

When you can't see, bake instead of knit.

I had minor eye surgery on Tuesday - nothing major, but I was wearing a pirate eyepatch for a little while and staring at stitches wasn't that easy. So with my days off to recover, I did some baking instead.

Chocolate chip biscuits should always be made with chunks of Whittakers Dark Cacao!

And it should also be used to smother over afghan slice.

Finished off with a cup of tea!

My eye is much better now - no bruising which I'm totally relieved about - so it's back to the knitting this weekend.

Knitting some gifts

So these have been sitting on the needles for ages, incomplete. I've decided they will make perfect bridesmaids' gifts - now I just have to finish them all in the next three and a half months. No biggy.
